it's not even open weights though. the license bans any company from serving this model if they make more than 20 million dollars per year, unless they ask Moonshot for permission. So this is a licensable model essentially.

that is fine. its freely available for personal use and creating a model like this takes a lot of people and cash so its completely natural that they protect its usage by mega corps who can make a lot of money serving this.

It would be for a model that individuals and small company can run. But no company making less than 20 million dollars can run this model, the cost for hardware is probably around 1 million $. I get they don't want huge huge corp to run it, but currently NO COMPANY can use it without their permission. You see this on Openrouter, the price is around the same for all providers (which had to got explicit permission from Kimi), so there will not be much competition for prices.

To clarify, the license is talking about revenue, not profit. Any inference provider will have huge revenue, but also huge costs.
