cascade-plate-detector

RF-DETR-Nano fine-tuned to detect licence plates. It is the plate arm of a cascade, not a standalone system: stage one is a stock detector supplying vehicle boxes, each box is cropped from the full-resolution frame, and this model reads the plate inside the crop. A direct pass over the whole frame runs alongside it.

Limits

Recall falls off sharply once a plate is under ~24 px wide. Never evaluated on the fisheye imagery it is intended for. No false-positive rate measured. Nothing here is a privacy claim.

Weights sha256:670deb67…b229b. Training config and raw metrics ship alongside.

Licences

• Apache 2.0 — RF-DETR (Roboflow) and the DINOv2 backbone. Changes were made: the classifier was fine-tuned to a single license_plate class.
• CC BY 4.0 — trained on License Plate Recognition v13, Roboflow Universe. The data was modified (augmentation deduplicated, train/held-out leakage removed). The dataset authors do not endorse this model.
