SpatialASM-Qwen3.5-9B-GGUF
SpatialASM-Qwen3.5-9B is a Qwen3.5-9B vision-language model from the paper "SpatialASM: Internalizing Active Mentalization for Spatial Reasoning". It is trained to internalize Active Spatial Mentalization (ASM), meaning that, like a person solving a hard spatial problem, it plans task-relevant viewpoints and imagines what would be visible from them instead of only inspecting the views it is given. Training has two stages. The first is supervised fine-tuning on plan-imagine-reason trajectories, built from existing spatial QA data. An allocentric novel-view generator (SpatialASM-NVG) renders views from a target viewpoint given an anchor image, a pixel location and a viewing direction. A Geometry Perturbation (GeoP) metric and answer-consistency checks filter out unreliable views and trajectories, and the rendered views are then replaced by textual captions. The second stage is GRPO reinforcement learning on automatically verifiable perspective-taking tasks, which strengthens the link between a viewpoint description and its expected observation. The novel-view generator is only training scaffolding, so the final model needs no world model, renderer or extra visual observations at inference. The card recommends appending the system prompt "First think and then give the final answer. Put the option letter within and ." The training data are the SpatialASM-66k spatial-VQA set with chain-of-thought responses, a subset of the 128k set, and the card lists no benchmark numbers for this checkpoint, only comparison figures in an image. The weights are tagged Apache-2.0, but the card says the data and code are intended and licensed for research use only, with data under CC BY-NC 4.0.
