Deterministic Engine

Executive Summary

Portable deterministic execution for structured evidence and text integrity. Bodulski HAL evaluates supplied evidence against explicit policy; Matrix Core normalizes text with a frozen character table and computes a UTC-date checksum. Neither path performs probabilistic text generation or requires model weights. The calling application controls source collection, trust and enforcement.

Release 1.1.0 separates the standard-library core from optional presentation and hosting. The source archive, exact format specification, independent vectors and restoration instructions make the core recoverable without this service.

Architecture Overview

Structured evidence + policy + explicit evaluation time
             |
     Bounded strict JSON boundary
             |
     Freshness / authority / contradiction gates
             |
     Classification + APPROVE / BLOCK / ESCALATE + receipt
             |
     Calling application enforces the decision

Text + explicit instant -> frozen whitespace profile -> UTC date
             -> exact UTF-8 v1 message -> SHA-256 checksum
             -> export -> offline consistency verification

Quickstart Code Snippets

Download the complete offline source archive, extract it into a new directory, then use an installed Python runtime:

python -B verify_release.py
python -B -m unittest discover -s tests -q
python -B offline_cli.py matrix examples/matrix.txt --at "2026-11-03T12:00:00Z"
python -B offline_cli.py verify-matrix examples/matrix-result.json
python -B offline_cli.py claims examples/supported.json
from datetime import datetime, timezone
from matrix_core import DeterministicMatrixCore, verify_result
from demo import evaluate, example

at = datetime(2026, 11, 3, 12, tzinfo=timezone.utc)
result = DeterministicMatrixCore().enforce_zero_tolerance_matrix(
    "  Evidence\tbefore\nconfidence.  ", now=at
)
assert result["matrix_verification_seal"] == "36e7be60a50a6d846b8b162c199a5e534c612ba171163d9c3406e2f2b12c0651"
assert verify_result(result)["verified"] is True
assert evaluate(example("unsupported", at=at))["verdict"] == "BLOCK"

The examples are synthetic public fixtures. Historical replay uses their original explicit evaluation time; it is not evidence of present-day freshness.

Deterministic Execution Proof

For fixed text and UTC date, the v1 checksum byte sequence is specified in MATRIX_FORMAT.md, independent of a future Unicode database. For the entire response to repeat, the full instant and engine metadata must also match. The evidence verifier likewise requires fixed input, policy, evaluation time and runtime provenance. test_vectors.json includes legacy compatibility, Unicode, 2126, Gregorian boundary and leap-year fixtures. These fixtures test arithmetic and reproducibility, not future uptime.

The core performs no stochastic generation. A 0% real-world hallucination rate is neither measured nor guaranteed. Supplied evidence can be fabricated; callers must authenticate sources and enforce BLOCK/ESCALATE decisions.

Benchmark & Reliability Specifications

Property Release contract
Matrix implementation 3.6.0-OMEGA
Frozen checksum / normalization bodul-matrix-v1 / bodul-whitespace-v1
Supplied-evidence algorithm / JSON schema 2.1.2 / 3
Public JSON boundary / archive 1.1.0 / 1.1.0
Core dependencies Python standard library; no inference service
Raw Matrix / JSON input limits 1 MiB each; JSON nesting 32 levels
Public evidence limits 1000 evidence records; 100 batch claims
Validation Recorded tests and local timing
Integrity SHA-256/SHA-512 archive comparison; no source authentication

Local timing measures synthetic in-process execution on the recorded runtime; it excludes cold starts, UI, network and real-world truth accuracy. It is not a hosted SLA, enterprise certification or a century-long reliability result. Invalid Unicode, duplicate JSON keys, non-finite numbers and malformed records fail closed at the documented public boundary.

Preservation and System Integration

The hosted Space is Static/Gradio-Lite, with pinned browser dependencies and no paid compute, persistent volume or inference endpoint. The first load downloads its Python runtime. It exposes no server-side MCP endpoint. Use the standalone offline page/archive if the host or CDNs are unavailable.

Trust and Compatibility

valid: true establishes accepted text, not truth or permission. A Matrix checksum can be recomputed by anyone; full timestamps and engine versions are unsealed metadata. verify_result checks consistency, not authorship. Existing 3.5.1 checksum values remain valid; 3.6 adds explicit format fields and controlled input errors. Unknown future formats are rejected until a reader is added.

Public Python/JSON entry points ignore caller-provided human approval flags. The lower-level kernel is a trusted integration API and requires external authentication and source validation. The public demo does not fetch URLs, execute payload text, or establish source identity. Do not submit secrets.

No service availability, runtime support or cryptographic strength can be promised for 100 years. The preservation strategy is explicit formats, readable source, tested recovery, multiple backups and maintained migration paths.
