Ornith is very good at understanding and writing texts
I ran my usual “writing ability” test, in which I take obscure e-books and have a model continue the story after a few chapters in.
I had to insert empty “think” tags as a prefix, but after that, Ornith performed very well!
Most reasoning and agentic models perform poorly on this task.
In particular, Ornith seems to become more stable with longer contexts.
Usually, it’s the opposite, which makes Kimi V2 and GLM 5.3 unusable for such tasks.
The only comparable model I know of is DeepSeek-V3-0324, the last large model without reasoning capabilities. It stood out for having the best understanding of the characters and their partial knowledge, but had a very limited writing style. Ornith is a bit worse at text comprehension, but has a much better writing style.
I’m pleased with this model!
