You need yt-dlp before this will work

>>>>>> Download yt-dlp here <<<<<<

Grab the file for your operating system and drop it in the same folder as backup_server.py:

Your system File to download
Windows yt-dlp.exe
Mac yt-dlp_macos
Linux yt-dlp_linux

file needed

Mac and Linux only: open Terminal in that folder and run chmod +x yt-dlp_macos (or yt-dlp_linux) so it's allowed to run.

Or, once the app is open, click the Install engine button on the yellow bar at the top and it will fetch yt-dlp for you.

Quick Start

  1. Unzip this folder anywhere (the Desktop is fine).
  2. Put yt-dlp in the folder (see above).
  3. Double-click the launcher:
    • Windows: Start_Windows.bat
    • Mac / Linux: Start_Mac_Linux.command
  4. Your browser opens at http://127.0.0.1:8787.
  5. Paste a video link, press Back up.

Close the black console window when you're done.

What else you need

  • Python 3.8 or newer. Most Macs and Linux boxes already have it. Windows: python.org — on the first install screen, tick Add python.exe to PATH.
  • ffmpeg (only for HD video or MP3). Easiest: click Install ffmpeg on the yellow bar inside the app. Manual: winget install Gyan.FFmpeg on Windows, brew install ffmpeg on Mac, sudo apt install ffmpeg on Linux.

Using it

Single link. Paste, pick MP4 or MP3, pick a quality (Best down to 144p), press Back up. Your browser saves the file when it's ready.

Many links. Switch to the Many links tab, paste one URL per line, click Browse… in Settings to pick a save folder, press Back up all.

Files are named <title>_<video-id>_<site>.mp4, e.g. Never_Gonna_Give_You_Up_dQw4w9WgXcQ_Youtube.mp4.

Private / logged-in posts

For private Instagram, Facebook or RedNote posts, open Settings → Logged-in content and pick the browser you're signed into. Fully close that browser first so its cookies aren't locked.

Settings

Preferences (format, quality, cookies browser, extras, save folder) are saved to pvd_settings.json next to the app, so they survive browser cache clears and move with the folder if you copy it elsewhere.

Troubleshooting

YouTube: "Sign in to confirm you're not a bot". Your IP is flagged. Set a cookie source in Settings, close that browser fully, then press retry with cookies.

Sites suddenly fail. Settings → Engine → Update engine. yt-dlp ships fixes most weeks.

Mac says the launcher can't be opened. Right-click it → Open → then click Open in the pop-up. macOS only asks once.

Legal

Only capture material you have the right to keep. Downloading can breach a platform's terms of service, and downloaded content is still owned by whoever made it.
