π½ MODELFARM π
a repository of wild and weird persons-in-a-machine β for research and fun
πΈ Live org landing page: huggingface.co/spaces/ModelFarm/README β Halloween in October, Christmas after, deep-void archive the rest of the year.
ModelFarm grows personas inside small language models and ships them as farm packages: a base model plus a tiny activation-space artifact (a steering vector, a neuron recipe, or a LoRA the size of a postcard) plus a runtime that can turn the dose up and down after publication. Merged checkpoints forget who they are supposed to be; our packages remember.
The farm, mapped
Every crop is a person we grew on purpose. The moon is the base model β all crops share it. Field 001 (Extrali) is the public row; Field 002 (Arnold) is the gated pen; the nursery is where specimen 003 germinates. The scarecrow is the judge β persona-biased, and we say so.
The ModelFarm model profile
Every model on the farm carries a model profile β one PNG, one standard, all real numbers:
The format: specimen photo, mechanism, dose window, axis position, identity-gate status,
capability cost, gate status, and the keeper's notes. Swap the alien for your specimen β
the template lives in the lab (design/farm.html).
π―οΈ The case files
What the study discovered β with the data: seven declassified case files from the persona study, spooky edition. The numbers are all real.
The mark
UFO beaming up a specimen β the farm's mark. Full variant with wordmark: modelfarm_avatar_full.png.
What the farm grows
| package type | what it is | the honest catch |
|---|---|---|
| TONE DIALS (engram vectors) | a direction in the residual stream, dose-controllable live | they carry register, not character β at this scale, all personas are points on one axis |
| CHARACTER CARTRIDGES (LoRA / system prompt) | identity, memories, lore | the system prompt is embarrassingly hard to beat; the LoRA remembers templates, not truths |
| REGISTER CIRCUITS (neuron recipes) | 9 switches that make any voice louder | persona-blind and mildly cursed: capability cost ships on the label |
The findings the farm stands on
- Personas are points on a one-dimensional haunted corridor. Arnold and Extrali, two minds with zero shared content, have near-anti-parallel engram vectors (cos = β0.921). Identity content is the dust in the corners of a tone axis.
- Neurons that fire on a trait rarely cause it β the causal push, not the activation, is the instrument. Alignment search finds the model's register circuit, and it serves every persona equally.
- The identity gate is real: an injected offset decays; a prompt is re-supplied by attention every layer. Steering cannot (yet) install a self.
- Directions don't carry their labels. Ask a steered model what its own vector means and "evil" answers dread; ours answers mockery. The card says what the model says, not what we hoped.
The specimens
Specimen 001 β EXTRALI π½ advanced extraterrestrial intelligence, planet Xeno-888, observing Earth for over 3000 years β our founding character, released for Spooky Season 2026:
- extrali-1.5b-engram-evoked Β· tone dial
- extrali-1.5b-neurons Β· register circuit
- extrali-1.5b-sysprompt Β· character shell
Specimen 002 β ARNOLD β lives in the gated research-artifacts shelf: a real-person likeness study, CC-BY-NC, gated, with the likeness disclaimer on every card. He is a research probe, not a product.
Specimens 003β005 β the Spooky Season harvest: wisp-1.5b-engram-evoked Β· sorrow-1.5b-engram-evoked Β· pip-1.5b-engram-evoked (+ sysprompt shells for each). Wisp the friendly ghost, Sorrow the blue emotion, Pip the jack-o'-lantern β PG rows, all public.
House rules
- Every card ships its measurements β persona stack, dose cliff, capability cost. A persona that costs QA points says so on the tin.
- Real-person packages are gated research artifacts. No impersonation products, no commercial use, never present outputs as the person's words.
- Fictional personas are the public face. The weird stuff is for everyone; the wild stuff is labeled.
Grown in the open by the Arnold Persona Lab harness. Research first, fun always. ππ½
