Inquiry on Input Data characteristics

Hi, @peterdudfield
I hope this message finds you well

I was reviewing your GitHub repository and had a question. When feeding the NWP data with the [-2, 8] hour time range and selected variables, do you simply input the weather values, or do you also provide information about the issue date and lead time along with each latitude and longitude information (since you use multiple pixels) to the machine learning model?

Thank you for your time and consideration.

hi @o-hug-me-please-o

Thanks for your message

The ML model is only away of the pixel values (lat, lon and time), and we don't currently provide the model the issue date, or the lead time. The model does receive some sun geometry variables, which are very useful, and are a good proxy for time.

However our data pipeline is aware of issue date, and lead time. This means we can provide to the model the actual forecast available at the time.
And yea, when include lead time to, this is sometimes called step.

Hope this helps
