Would you mind sharing how you converted it?
Whenever I do it with llama.cpp convert.py script, I have to use --pad-vocab, and the end result does not work.

You have to use a previous commit convert.py, I used the one from f5ca054 and you need to specify --vocab-type bpe --pad-vocab.

Are they aware that convert.py is broken in more recent versions?
Not sure, and I haven't had time to look into it very much yet but at some point we should put in a PR with a fix.
