What should the prompt template be for the Modelfile?

I tried TEMPLATE "A chat between a curious user and an artificial intelligence assistant. The assistant gives helpful, detailed, and polite answers to the user's questions. USER: {prompt} ASSISTANT:" but that just results in garbage from the model.
