i simply asked it which version it is and it said its gpt3 not gpt4
I understand your concern about the GPT version. It's important to note that GPT-4 was trained on data up until September 2021, before its own release. As a result, it might still identify itself as GPT-3. I have tested this in the OpenAI playground using GPT-4, and the output was indeed similar as shown below.
Interestingly, when using the ChatGPT web interface, GPT-4 is able to correctly identify its version (also shown below). I believe this might be due to a hidden prompt or additional context provided by the web interface. Regardless, please rest assured that the chatbot you're interacting with is indeed based on GPT-4.
