Apply for community grant: Academic project (gpu)
Hey,
I am a postdoctoral researcher focused on ethics and AI. I am writing to apply for a research compute grant to support our ongoing investigation into gendered performance in modern automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems. We are replicating and hosting those results on a live leaderboard in this Space.
Our recent study on this topic was presented at EMNLP 2024 and received a Social Impact Award. Two co-authors of the paper are collaborating on research projects led by HuggingFace’s Margaret Mitchell, exploring intersections between cultures, stereotypes, and language models.
Building on the EMNLP paper's efforts, we aim to expand our analysis to new ASR models and datasets, addressing gender bias in speech technologies. To conduct this extended research, we primarily require GPU compute time to run inferences on existing data. Our experiments are computationally light, typically needing access to a single GPU for short periods. We believe HuggingFace's support would be instrumental in advancing this work.
