evaluate.load() runs extremely slow

When I use evaluate.load(), whether from a local file or a metric name, it takes even up to a few minutes for the load to complete. Is there any solution to this?
Are you running it on a machine with reasonably fast internet connection? Can you reproduce it on e.g. Colab?
