I hope this message finds you well. My name is Jobanpreet Singh, a passionate M.Tech (AI/DS) student dedicated to conducting research in the field of speech technology. Throughout my exploration of Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) and extensive reading of papers and articles, I have noticed a significant gap in research and ASR systems specifically tailored for the Punjabi language, which is not only a subject of academic interest but also my mother tongue.
In my endeavor to contribute to the advancement of Punjabi language technology, I have diligently collected ASR datasets from various sources, including universities, AI4BHARAT, and HuggingFace itself. Now, I am eager to embark on the journey of building a pipeline for training an ASR model. As a starting point, I have chosen to fine-tune the Whisper model and plan to compare its metrics with other existing systems.
I am reaching out to the HuggingFace community with a humble request for support and guidance in this undertaking. I believe that with your assistance, we can collectively contribute to the development of ASR technology for low-resource languages like Punjabi. Your support will not only aid in my personal research goals but will also be instrumental in filling the gap in Punjabi language technology.
