An agent-based chatbot app designed as a companion for hemodialysis patients leverages artificial intelligence to provide personalized, empathetic support throughout their treatment journey. The chatbot functions as a virtual health companion, capable of answering questions, offering lifestyle tips, reminding patients about their schedules, and providing emotional support. To ensure the AI understands the complex medical concepts and patient-specific contexts involved in hemodialysis, the system employs Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG). This approach enables the chatbot to retrieve relevant medical knowledge and patient education materials from determined sources in real-time, grounding its responses in accurate, up-to-date information. By combining agent-based architecture with RAG-enhanced AI, the app offers dynamic, context-aware interactions that help patients feel informed, supported, and less isolated during their treatment.
