🔔 Top HF Users To Follow On X - https://huggingface.co/spaces/mvaloatto/HF2X

Ever since I fell down the AI rabbit hole, it hasn’t been super easy to spot and follow the most impactful Hugging Face contributors on X. So, inspired by @Weyaxi leaderboards, I decided to create a list just for this purpose.

Why, you ask?

First, it’s quite surprising how so many talented AI pioneers and independent contributors on X don't get the visibility/reach you might expect. Sad but true: follower count doesn't always match up with the value or innovation an individual brings to the table (just stating the obvious here).

Open source AI, in particular, thrives not just on innovation but also on the collective spirit of its believers and builders. With Hugging Face standing out as a prime hub for top AI engineers and contributors, compiling a directory of X profiles from influential figures on this platform felt like a natural step.

This Space aims to not only connect these top contributors but also guide open AI enthusiasts and newcomers towards the field's leading lights.

I put this modest page together using some web scraping and what I remember from my web dev class ages ago! Suggestions/likes are welcome - I’m hoping to keep tweaking/upgrading it, especially if you all find it useful.

Now, let’s follow each other! It’s time to accelerate the dissemination of our ideas, encourage collaboration within our community, and ensure that open AI developments receive the attention and recognition they deserve. 🔥

Very good initiative. Don't know but my name is missing?

Thank you Ajinkya, I'll take a look at this 👍

Great initiative, @mvaloatto ! Fantastic way to spotlight the talent within the community. Speaking of talent and collaboration, I wanted to share highly related findings from our recent study that might add an interesting layer (https://arxiv.org/abs/2311.13380, with @silveriomf and two other colleagues).

We delved into the HF community's structure and, among other insights, discovered intriguing dynamics around author groups. In particular, our research (RQ1.3, 2.6) found that while there are numerous contributors, a small number of author groups, led by prominent figures, dominate the platform's popularity. Remarkably, one group alone captures 40% of HF's attention, showcasing a tight-knit collaboration that significantly influences HF's landscape. Moreover, almost all of their models exhibit great maintenance and documentation efforts. This highlights not just the concentration of popularity within specific groups, but also their commitment to quality and the accessibility of AI model development.

These insights could offer another dimension to your Space by identifying not just individuals but also these influential groups, emphasizing the power of community and collaboration in driving open AI forward :)

Thank you @joelcf001 for these great insights! I'd need to determine the best method to feature groups of authors, as the platform currently lacks a structured category for such groups. In the meantime, it could be interesting to highlight the most popular individual authors (based on upvote count) and link them to their frequent co-authors, also ordered by popularity. I will definitely take a closer look at this!
