Pench National Park, which has a total area of 758 sq km including the core area, is rich in wildlife and provides travelers with one of India's best wildlife experiences. A range of fascinating wildlife has made Pench national park home since it was established as a wildlife sanctuary in 1965: Royal Bengal tigers, Indian leopards, striped hyenas, jackals, peafowl, four-horned antelopes, Indian wolves, wild dogs, wild boars, sloth bears, monkeys, gaurs, barking deer, and more. The wildlife sanctuary was eventually designated as a national park and a Pench Tiger Reserve in the years 1975 and 1992, consecutively.
