In order to download the ADIOS binary files from the OLCF Data Constellation, you must download and set-up the Globus software.
|
2 |
+
Here’s a step-by-step guide for downloading a dataset from a remote entry point using Globus:
|
3 |
+
|
4 |
+
1. Set Up a Globus Account
|
5 |
+
If you don't already have a Globus account, sign up on the Globus website (https://www.globus.org).
|
6 |
+
Complete the registration process, and then log in to your account.
|
7 |
+
2. Install the Globus Connect Personal (Optional)
|
8 |
+
If you want to download data directly to your personal computer, install Globus Connect Personal on your machine. This step makes your computer a “personal endpoint” that you can transfer files to.
|
9 |
+
Download and install Globus Connect Personal (https://www.globus.org/globus-connect-personal), and follow the instructions to link it to your account.
|
10 |
+
3. Access the Dataset’s Endpoint
|
11 |
+
Obtain the endpoint ID or URL for the dataset you want to download from the remote source.
|
12 |
+
Commonly, datasets are hosted on Globus-enabled storage endpoints that are shared publicly or available through specific research groups or institutions.
|
13 |
+
4. Navigate to the Dataset in Globus
|
14 |
+
Go to the Globus Transfer page.
|
15 |
+
In the File Manager, enter the endpoint ID or search for the dataset’s endpoint name in the search bar.
|
16 |
+
Once you locate the endpoint, click to connect and navigate to the specific directory where the dataset is stored.
|
17 |
+
5. Select the Files for Download
|
18 |
+
Browse the file structure to find the dataset folder or files you need.
|
19 |
+
Select the files or folders you want to download by checking the boxes next to them.
|
20 |
+
6. Choose a Destination Endpoint
|
21 |
+
In the other file manager pane, choose the endpoint you want to transfer the data to (e.g., your personal endpoint if you set up Globus Connect Personal on your computer, or another available destination).
|
22 |
+
Alternatively, if transferring to a shared storage, select the appropriate storage location.
|
23 |
+
7. Initiate the Transfer
|
24 |
+
Once both endpoints are set and you’ve selected your files, click on the Start or Transfer button.
|
25 |
+
Globus will start the transfer process, and you’ll see a notification indicating that the transfer request has been submitted.
|
26 |
+
8. Monitor Transfer Status
|
27 |
+
You can check the status of your transfer on the Activity page within the Globus interface.
|
28 |
+
Globus will notify you once the transfer is complete or if any issues arise during the process.
|
29 |
+
9. Download the Dataset (if applicable)
|
30 |
+
If you’re transferring files to a personal endpoint, you’ll find the dataset in the designated directory on your local machine once the transfer is complete.
|
31 |
+
If it’s going to a shared storage, confirm with your administrator where to access it.
|
32 |
+
With these steps, you should be able to successfully download datasets from a remote entry point using Globus. Let me know if you need further assistance on any specific step!
